DOST-ITDI offers new way to pack Lechon The Industrial Technology Development Institute(DOST-ITDI), through its Packaging Technology Division (PTD), developed an improved packaging system that can extend the freshness and shelf life of pork lechon. This transport packaging system also protects the product from damage resulting from handling and transport. Likewise, packing time is shortened and packaging costs are reduced. Gone are the days of limp and unappetizing lechon. The fiesta-favorite can now be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. |

Chavanne of the University of Brussels in Belgium discovered how to produce biodiesel from palm oil using the process now called transesterification. Since then, the world has been steadily "harvesting" - neither fruit nor vegetable produce - but oil from six of the best biofuel sources. MATDEV rolls out new AM services Inaugurated late last year, the Materials Development Laboratory or MATDEV has started rolling out its additive manufacturing services after its introduction to the public on March 25, 2021. Riding on the wheels of novelty, MATDEV proposes an energy-efficient and waste-reducing technology. It employs the technology of additive manufacturing (AM), which is how objects are created in 3D printing. It is called additive manufacturing because the build process adds instead of subtracts raw material. |

Abaca fiber-reinforced boat to set sail The Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) developed an abaca fiber-reinforced composite material. It is a green composite material from abaca fiber mixed with the polymeric resin used in producing parts/accessories for the different modes of transportation. In developing the technology, DOST-ITDI utilized vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) or resin infusion process, an innovative technique in fabricating abaca fiber-reinforced composites in more complex structures for different transport modes such as tricycle roof, fuselage for drones, and boat body. |
