FOOD PROCESSING DIVISION (FPD)

DIVISIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Plan and undertake research and development in the field of food processing;
  • Undertake technology transfer of generated technologies;
  • Provide technical assistance and support services to clients, (i.e., industry, academe) in relation to the division’s field of expertise; and
  • Contribute in the planning and implementation of the Institute’s programs/projects.

 

THREE (3) SECTIONS UNDER FPD

1. FOOD SAFETY SECTION

  • Participate in the development of food standards to ensure the quality, safety and competitiveness of locally processed food; and
  • Promote the practice of GMP and HACCP in the production line for improved competitiveness of food processing SME's 

2. FOOD ENGINEERING SECTION

  • Undertake scale-up validation studies on developed food products/processes;
  • Develop equipment prototypes for scale-up production/processing; and
  • Set up food processing facilities for Technology Business Incubators (TBIs)/ Enterprise Modules (EMs) for technology transfer 

3. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT SECTION

  • Develop new/improved process food products/processes for the export market;
  • Undertake research on food processing by-products utilization and application; and
  • Develop alternative sources of food ingredients
